How to Create/Add a package in WHM?

In WHM, go to Packages then Add a Package, enter the limits and settings you want, and click Add. Assign the package when you Create a New Account, or move an existing account onto it with Upgrade/Downgrade an Account.

Before you start

• Log in to WHM for your Hostworld reseller or server account. You can reach it from your client area at portal.hostworld.uk: open the hosting service and use the login link shown there. If you do not have that link or your WHM details to hand, open a support ticket and we will send them.
• Decide a package name that is a valid filename and is not extensions. You cannot rename a package later.
• If you plan to tick Dedicated IP, ensure there is a free IP on the server first.

Step 1: Open Add a Package in WHM

In WHM, use the left search to find Add a Package, or expand Packages and choose Add a Package. WHM layouts vary by version, so use search if you do not see it immediately.

Step 2: Define the package’s resources and settings

• Package Name: Enter a unique name. It is stored as a file, so it must be a valid filename and cannot be extensions. You cannot change this later.
• Resources: Set Disk Space Quota and Monthly Bandwidth Limit in MB. Most resource fields offer an Unlimited option. For Maximum Hourly Email by Domain Relayed, 0 means Unlimited and you cannot exceed the server’s mail limit.
• Mail safeguards: If you use Maximum Percentage of Failed or Deferred Messages per Hour, set it sensibly. Too low can block or throttle legitimate mail for domains on this package.
• Dedicated IP: Tick only if you intend each account on this package to have a dedicated IP. This setting is not editable after creation. Account creation will fail if no free IPs exist.
• Shell Access: Choose the shell level. cPanel recommend jailshell for added containment.
• CGI Access: Enable or disable as required.
• cPanel Theme: Pick the default theme for accounts on this package. If you select Meridian, accounts created on Meridian cannot switch themselves back to Jupiter later, even if Theme Switching is allowed.
• Feature List: Select a list from Feature Manager. Do not use the disabled list on a package. Manage features centrally in Feature Manager instead.
• Locale: Choose the default interface language.
• Package Extensions: If shown, select any provider extensions to tie to the package. You cannot add or remove extensions from an existing package in WHM later. To change them you must create a new package or use the API.

Click Add to create the package.

Step 3: Apply it or undo it

• Use it for a new account: In WHM, open Create a New Account and select your package.
• Move an existing account to it: In WHM, Upgrade/Downgrade an Account, choose the account, then select your package.
• Undo: If you created a package you no longer want, first switch any accounts off it using Upgrade/Downgrade an Account. Then delete it in WHM’s Delete a Package. You cannot undo deletion. If you need it again, recreate it.

If it does not work

• You cannot see Packages or Add a Package in WHM: Your reseller privileges may not include package management. Please open a support ticket and we will enable the correct permissions.
• Account creation fails with a dedicated IP error: The package has Dedicated IP enabled but there is no free IP. Either add an IP first in WHM’s Add a New IP Address, or create a new package without Dedicated IP and use that.
• Mail or resource limits are too low: Low disk or bandwidth quotas can cause write failures or bandwidth limiting. Over‑strict mail limits can throttle sending. Edit the package to raise limits, or create a new package with higher limits and upgrade the affected accounts. Note that editing a package and applying the update changes all accounts using it.
