How to Reset my cPanel Account Password?
Learn how to reset your cPanel account password using three methods: changing it directly in cPanel, using the login page reset flow, or through WHM if you are a reseller. The guide covers what to do if you cannot access your account and how to handle two-factor authentication issues.
Change it inside cPanel under Password & Security. If you cannot sign in, use the Reset Password link on the cPanel login page and complete the code-by-email flow.
Before you start
- The login-page reset emails a code to the address set in cPanel under Contact Information. You need access to that inbox.
- If Two-Factor Authentication is enabled and you do not have your 2FA device, you will need us to disable 2FA before you can sign in.
- Hosts can hide the Password & Security screen and the login-page Reset Password link. If either is missing, use WHM if you are a reseller or ask us.
Step 1: Change the password from inside cPanel
- Sign in to cPanel (for example, visit
https://yourdomain:2083or your server hostname on port 2083). - Open Password & Security. If that interface is not available, look in Account Preferences for a password change option in recent versions. Some hosts remove Password & Security via WHM Feature Manager.
- Enter a new password and save. If the strength meter rejects it, make it longer and mix character types. Your host sets minimum strength in WHM.
Undo: repeat the same screen and set it back to your previous password if you still know it. Then update any saved credentials that used your cPanel login, such as FTP or Web Disk clients.
Note: this changes the main cPanel account password. It does not change individual email mailbox passwords. Those are under Email » Manage Email Accounts.
Step 2: Reset it from the cPanel login page
- Open the cPanel login page (
https://yourdomain:2083or your server hostname on port 2083). - Click Reset Password. If you do not see this link, your host has disabled it.
- Enter your cPanel username and submit. A security code is emailed to the Contact Email configured in cPanel » Contact Information.
- Stay in the same browser session and tab. Enter the code when it arrives, then set a new password that meets the strength requirement and confirm.
Undo: run the login-page reset again and change it back to the old password if you still know it, or choose a new one. Update any saved credentials that used the old password.
Step 3: Change it in WHM if you are a reseller
- Sign in to WHM.
- Go to Home » Account Functions » Password Modification. Select the cPanel account and set a new password.
Undo: repeat the same WHM screen and set the previous password again if you still know it.
If it does not work
- No Reset Password link: this is controlled by WHM » Tweak Settings. If it is missing, change the password inside cPanel, use WHM if you are a reseller, or open a support ticket.
- No email or code invalid: the email goes to cPanel » Contact Information. If that address is empty or wrong, the login-page reset cannot complete. Check spam folders and complete the process in the same browser session without closing the tab. If you still cannot proceed, open a support ticket.
- 2FA blocks login: even with the correct password, 2FA will still require a code. If you lost your 2FA app, we need to disable 2FA for your account so you can sign in and reconfigure it. Open a support ticket.

Common questions
Does this change my email mailbox passwords?
No. Changing the cPanel account password does not change individual mailbox passwords. Change those in cPanel under Email » Manage Email Accounts for each mailbox.
Where does the reset email go?
To the address set under cPanel » Contact Information. After you regain access, check and update that address so future resets work. If it is unset and you are locked out, the login-page reset cannot complete. Open a support ticket and we will help.
I lost my 2FA device. What should I do?
2FA will block logins even with the correct password. We need to disable 2FA on your cPanel account before you can sign in and reconfigure it. Open a support ticket from your Hostworld client area so we can verify and assist.
