Choosing a plan

How much RAM your workflows need

n8n holds the data moving through a workflow in memory, so what matters is how big each run is rather than how often it fires. Here is how that maps onto the plans above.

Enough to run n8n properly and test your workflows. Scheduled jobs, API calls, Slack and email nodes, modest payloads.

Payload size

A workflow moving a 40 MB CSV through six nodes holds far more than one posting a Slack message. Binary data, PDFs and images are what usually change the answer.

Concurrency

Ten workflows on the same cron tick is ten payloads resident at once. Staggering the schedules costs a fraction of firing them together.

Execution history

n8n saves every run by default. Set a pruning policy early and the database stays small whatever your volume.

Queue mode

Splitting into a main process plus workers with Redis is how you scale past one box, and it wants the headroom of a larger plan.

Start smaller than you think and move up when you need to. Resizing is a ticket and a reboot, and you only pay the difference.

Getting started

From order to first workflow

The server arrives with n8n installed and serving. These five steps take it from running to production, and the guide walks through each one with the commands.

    Create your login

    Open your server’s IP in a browser and set up your account. It takes a minute, and it is the first thing to do.

    Point a domain at it

    An A record to your server’s IP. Webhooks work better on a proper hostname than on an IP address.

  3. 3

    Turn on HTTPS

    A free certificate in front of n8n. Caddy does it in about four lines, and the guide has them.

  4. 4

    Update your webhook address

    It arrives pointed at your IP. Switch it to your domain once that is live.

  5. 5

    Get backups going

    It runs on SQLite out of the box, which is fine to start with. Move to PostgreSQL when the data matters, and take a backup either way.

Self-hosting n8n, answered

Is n8n free if I self-host it?
Yes. n8n is free to run on your own server for your own business. You pay for the server, from £4.99 a month, and nothing for n8n itself.
Can I use it for client work?
Yes. Automating work for your own clients on your own instance is fine. Running n8n as a hosted service that your clients log into needs an agreement with n8n, so talk to them first if that is the plan.
Is there a limit on executions?
No. No execution count, no per-task charge and no tier to trip into. The only limit is what the server can handle, which depends on payload size far more than on how often your workflows run.
Where is my data stored?
In a UK data centre in Maidenhead, Berkshire. n8n Cloud stores hosted data in Frankfurt, Germany and offers no UK region at any tier. Worth knowing either way: self-hosting controls where n8n keeps data at rest, not where your workflows send it, so a node calling an external API still moves that data under the API provider’s terms.
How much RAM do I need for n8n?
2 GB runs n8n and suits testing and lighter workflows. 4 GB is the comfortable starting point for real use including AI nodes. 8 GB or more suits large binary payloads, high concurrency or queue mode with Redis. You can move up a plan at any time.
How quickly is it ready?
Usually about a minute. Choose n8n under Pre-installed software at checkout and it is installed while the server builds, so the editor is already serving when your root login arrives.
Do you manage n8n for me?
We support the server and will help you get n8n reachable on your domain. The workflows themselves stay yours, which is deliberate: nobody but you holds the credentials your automations use. If you would rather n8n itself were managed, n8n Cloud is built for that.
Can I use AI nodes, OpenAI or Anthropic?
Yes, with your own API key, and there is nothing blocked. You pay the model provider directly at their rates rather than buying bundled credits, which on a busy instance usually works out cheaper.
What happens when a new version of n8n comes out?
You update when it suits you, which for most people is roughly monthly. Nothing changes under you unannounced, and no upgrade window is imposed on your automations.
Can I move an existing n8n install to you?
Yes. Export your workflows and credentials from the old instance, or copy the database directly if you are on PostgreSQL. Open a ticket before you start and we will have the server ready to receive it. Keep your original encryption key — credentials will not decrypt without it.
Is there a contract?
No. Monthly billing with no minimum term and no exit fee, with longer terms available if you want the discount. New customers get 50% off the first month.
