How to Edit a hosting package in WHM?
Learn how to edit hosting packages in WHM, including resource limits, feature lists, and email quotas. Understand what changes affect all accounts on a package and how to modify a single account instead.
In WHM go to Packages » Edit a Package, select your package, click Edit, change the limits and settings, then Save Changes. This applies to every cPanel account that uses that package.
Before you start
- You need WHM access with permission to edit packages. If you are on a Hostworld reseller account and cannot see Edit a Package, the privilege has to be enabled by the server owner, which is us. Open a support ticket and tell us which reseller username needs it.
- Editing a package updates all accounts on that package. If you only want one account changed, use WHM » Account Functions » Upgrade/Downgrade an Account instead.
- You cannot rename a package or toggle the Dedicated IP setting later. For those, create a new package and move accounts to it.
Step 1: Open Edit a Package in WHM
- Log in to WHM.
- Go to Home » Packages » Edit a Package.
- Select the package you want to change, then click Edit.
If you are a reseller, you may only see packages you own. These are typically named like username_packagename. “Global” packages require the viewglobalpackages permission from the server owner.
Step 2: Update limits and options
- Review and change the resource limits you need, such as Disk Quota, Bandwidth, and Maximum Hourly Email per Domain. If a domain exceeds the hourly mail limit, sending is temporarily blocked for that domain until it drops below the threshold. Lowering Disk Quota below current usage will put accounts over quota, which can block mail delivery and writes until space is freed or the quota is raised.
- Choose the Feature List for this package. Do not assign the global “disabled” list. Manage proper feature sets in WHM » Packages » Feature Manager and select one here.
- Set Max Quota per Email Address if required. This does not retroactively change existing mailboxes. It sets the limit for new mailboxes and any existing mailbox you manually edit later.
- Check Package Extensions shown on the page. You cannot add or remove extensions for an existing package in WHM. Create a new package if you must change them. If an extension is missing, you can tick Remove missing extensions from package to clean it up. If WP Toolkit is present, you may see a toggle to auto‑provision WordPress on new accounts via a Package Extension.
Step 3: Save, then undo or change only one account
- Click Save Changes. WHM applies the update to all accounts on that package immediately.
- Verify which accounts are on this package if you need to check impact: go to WHM » Account Information » List Accounts and review the Package column.
- To undo: return to Packages » Edit a Package, restore the previous values and Save Changes. If you only want some accounts reverted, create a new package with the old values, then move those accounts via WHM » Account Functions » Upgrade/Downgrade an Account.
If you edited an individual account in WHM » Modify an Account and chose to “Update package … with these new values” in the Package Conflict Resolution screen by mistake, you changed the package for everyone. Undo by re‑editing the package back to the prior values, or create a new package and move only the intended account to it with Upgrade/Downgrade an Account.
If it does not work
- Cannot see Edit a Package or your package: You may not have the privilege, or you are a reseller without access to global packages. If you are hosted with us and need this adjusted, open a support ticket.
- Changes did not affect the account you expected: Check the account’s assigned package in WHM » Account Information » List Accounts. If it is on a different package, use WHM » Account Functions » Upgrade/Downgrade an Account to switch it. If you customised the account in Modify an Account, make its values match the intended package or move it to the correct package.
- Option is greyed out or not taking effect: You cannot change the Dedicated IP flag on an existing package. Create a new package for that. Mailbox sizes will not retroactively change when you alter Max Quota per Email Address; update existing mailboxes within each cPanel account if needed.
What next
If you meant to switch a single account to a different plan, use WHM » Account Functions » Upgrade/Downgrade an Account. If you want us to check your settings, restore a package to its previous values, or do this for you, open a support ticket and include the package name and the accounts affected.
