How do I terminate an account through WHM?

In WHM, open Terminate Accounts, select the account, tick Keep DNS Zone if you need to retain DNS, click Remove, then confirm Yes, delete this account. This permanently deletes the account and all its data, including any team users.

Before you start

• You need root WHM access or a reseller account with the Terminate Accounts privilege.
• Create and verify a backup off the server. Termination cannot be undone.
• If you use a DNS cluster or are migrating within one, decide whether to keep the DNS zone.

Step 1: Open Terminate Accounts in WHM

In WHM, use the search box for “Terminate Accounts”. It may appear under Account Functions or Multi Account Functions depending on your WHM version. Do not rely on an old screenshot.

Step 2: Select the account, choose Keep DNS Zone if needed, and confirm

• Find the correct account. Double check the username and primary domain to avoid removing the wrong one.
• Optional: tick Keep DNS Zone if the server is in a DNS cluster or you are moving the account to another server that shares the cluster. Unticking will remove the zone across the cluster.
• To remove one account, click Remove on its row. For several, tick them and click Remove selected accounts.
• Confirm by clicking Yes, delete this account. This is permanent and deletes files, mail, databases, SSLs and any team users. There is no undo.

Undo step: if you need to reverse this, recreate the account and restore from your backup. If you need help restoring, open a support ticket.

Step 3: Tidy up backups and plan for recreation

• Backups are not removed automatically. Move or delete any of this account’s backups to prevent an account collision if you later reuse the same username.
• If you need to recreate the same username straight away, a brief delay can occur while MySQL users are cleaned up. Wait a short while, then try again.

Step 4: Stop billing in your Hostworld account

Terminating in WHM does not stop invoicing. In WHMCS at portal.hostworld.uk, cancel or terminate the service to stop future invoices, following WHMCS’s documented flow for cancellations or scheduled terminations. If you want us to align the server action with billing, open a support ticket.

If it does not work

• Can’t find Terminate Accounts in the menu: the grouping varies by WHM version. Use the WHM search for “Terminate Accounts”.
• Permission denied as a reseller: your privileges do not include termination. Ask the server admin to grant it, or open a support ticket and we will handle it.
• Recreate fails immediately: wait a short time for MySQL user cleanup, then try again.
