LinkedIn Login Update

Back in 2012 LinkedIn (the “social network for suits”) had a data breach. At the time, they reported that 6 million records were compromised, but it is now known that it was closer to 117 million. Recently the usernames and passwords were put up for sale on the Dark Web which prompted LinkedIn to take the step of making users reset their passwords. If you never changed your password after the breach, the next time you log into LinkedIn, you will be made to send yourself an email that will allow you to reset your password.

Because password breaches are becoming more common these days, we would urge everyone to not re-use passwords, so that if your security details are compromised in one place, the hackers are not able to use your details to gain access to your account somewhere else. Also we urge that you do not use common words or phrases as your password. Many words commonly appear in hackers login attempts and some organisations and websites now ban these from being used.
