How to Access your Email Account from cPanel Webmail?

Access your email through cPanel Webmail by visiting yourdomain.tld:2096 with your mailbox credentials, or open it directly from cPanel without needing your password. Webmail works in any modern browser and supports optional auto-login to your inbox.

Go to https://yourdomain.tld:2096 and sign in with the full email address and that mailbox’s password, or in cPanel go to Email Accounts then click Check Email for that mailbox to open Webmail without re-entering the password.

Before you start

  • Make sure the mailbox exists in cPanel. You need either its password or access to the cPanel account.
  • Webmail works in any modern browser on AlmaLinux 9, Ubuntu 24.04, Windows or macOS.
  • If your domain is not pointing to this server yet, or DNS is still propagating, be ready to use the server’s hostname or IP with :2096 instead.

Step 1: Log in at https://yourdomain.tld:2096 with the mailbox password

  1. In your browser, visit https://yourdomain.tld:2096. If the domain is not ready, use the server’s hostname or IP with :2096.
  2. Enter the full email address and that mailbox’s password. If your login page shows external identity providers, you can use those instead.
  3. On first login, Webmail may ask for analytics consent. Save your choice to stop the prompts repeating.

Step 2: Or open Webmail from cPanel without the mailbox password

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Go to Email then Email Accounts.
  3. Find the mailbox and click Check Email. You are taken into Webmail without re-entering the mailbox password.

Step 3: Optional: go straight into Roundcube next time

In Webmail, enable Open my inbox when I log in to enter Roundcube immediately on future logins. Undo: return to Webmail and clear the same option to stop auto-opening.

If it does not work

  • Domain or DNS not ready: use the server’s hostname or IP with :2096. DNS propagation can take 48 to 72 hours. If the browser shows a certificate warning, follow cPanel’s guidance in How to Log in to Your Server or Account.
  • Network blocks ports 2096 or 2095: try https://webmail.yourdomain.tld over 443 if service subdomains are enabled on your account. If that subdomain does not load, use the cPanel method above or the :2096 URL from a different network. If you need service subdomains enabled, open a support ticket.
  • Password or SSO issues: the standalone :2096 page needs the mailbox’s own password. If Single Sign-On from the Hostworld client area shows ‘Action Failed Unable to auto-login’, use the two methods above, then open a support ticket so we can check SSO on your service.

Common questions

Which webmail client does cPanel use?

cPanel ships Roundcube as the built-in webmail client. Horde was removed in cPanel & WHM v108, and calendars and contacts were migrated to Roundcube.

Do I need the mailbox password to access Webmail via cPanel?

No. When you click Check Email in cPanel's Email Accounts section, cPanel opens Webmail for that mailbox without asking for the mailbox password again.

How do I stop Webmail from auto-opening Roundcube on login?

If you enabled Open my inbox when I log in, go back into Webmail and clear that same option. This returns you to the Webmail landing page on login.
