How to Add a cPanel email account on Apple/iOS?

Add a cPanel email account to your iPhone or iPad by copying the server settings from cPanel and entering them in Mail settings. Choose IMAP to sync across multiple devices, or POP3 for a single device. Map your mailbox folders to keep Drafts, Sent and Deleted in sync.

On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Add Account, choose Add Other Account > Mail Account, then enter your mailbox details and Save. Get the exact server names, ports and SSL settings from cPanel first under Email > Email Accounts > Connect Devices.

Before you start

  • Your full email address and its password.
  • Access to your Hostworld cPanel to copy the settings from Email > Email Accounts > Connect Devices (opens “Set Up Mail Client”).
  • Plan to use IMAP if you want the mailbox on more than one device.

Step 1: Copy the exact settings from cPanel

In cPanel on your Hostworld hosting, go to Email > Email Accounts. Next to your mailbox, click Connect Devices to open “Set Up Mail Client”. Note the Secure SSL/TLS settings shown there: IMAP 993 or POP3 995 for incoming, SMTP 465 for outgoing, Username is the full email address, and the Incoming and Outgoing Server hostnames as shown. Use those hostnames exactly to avoid iOS certificate warnings. If you see an iOS/macOS automatic configuration option on that page, you can use it. You can also reach this page from Email Accounts > Check Email, then Configure Mail Client.

Step 2: Add the account on your iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Add Account.
  2. Tap Add Other Account > Mail Account. Enter Name, Email, Password and a Description, then tap Next.
  3. If Mail does not auto-detect, choose IMAP. Enter the Incoming and Outgoing Server hostnames from Step 1. For both, set Username to your full email address and enter the same password. Ensure SSL is on. Ports: IMAP 993. SMTP 465 with authentication enabled.
  4. Tap Save and wait for verification.

Step 3: Set how new mail arrives and map folders

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Fetch New Data. If Push is not offered for your account, set a Fetch schedule that suits you. “Automatically” fetches when the phone is on charge and Wi‑Fi.
  • To keep Drafts, Sent and Deleted in sync across devices, open the account’s Advanced settings and under Mailbox Behaviours map Drafts, Sent and Deleted to the server folders, not “On My iPhone”.

Step 4: Undo the change (remove the account safely)

On iOS go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts, tap the account, then Delete Account. If the account was set up as POP and removed messages from the server, move any messages you need into server folders first so they remain available after removal.

If it does not work

  • “Cannot Verify Server Identity”: you are connecting to a hostname that does not match its certificate. Do not “trust” it. In cPanel, open Set Up Mail Client and use the exact hostname shown there, which may be the server’s hostname rather than mail.yourdomain. Then re-add or edit the account to use that hostname.
  • “Authentication failed” during verify: in iOS the Username must be your full email address. Re-enter the password carefully. If you changed the mailbox password in cPanel, update it on the phone as well.
  • Cannot send or 550 errors: enable SMTP authentication and use the secure SMTP port 465 with SSL. Use the same username and password as incoming. Re-check the SMTP server name matches the one from Set Up Mail Client.

If you are still stuck, please open a support ticket so we can check your mailbox and server settings.

What next

If you run your own mail services on a VPS and need more mail and DNS control, see our VPS guides. Planning to move to your own server later? See our Linux VPS options. If Mail will not verify after the checks above, open a support ticket and we will review your account.

Common questions

Should I use IMAP or POP?

Use IMAP if you want the mailbox on more than one device. POP can download and remove messages from the server, which means other devices will not see them. If you must change from POP to IMAP, move messages into server folders first to avoid data loss.

Where do I find the correct server names and ports?

In cPanel go to Email > Email Accounts > Connect Devices and use the Secure SSL/TLS settings shown. Do not guess hostnames. Using the wrong one often triggers iOS “Cannot Verify Server Identity”. IMAP 993 and SMTP 465 with SSL are the recommended secure ports.

Can I get instant notifications?

Some providers do not support Push for generic IMAP accounts. Set your Fetch schedule in Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Fetch New Data. “Automatically” fetches when the device is on charge and Wi‑Fi. Otherwise pick a schedule that fits your work.
