Resolving “This site cannot be reached” or “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG” error within a Windows VPS
Occasionally Windows can fail to get a DNS server automatically from the DHCP server, and as a result services within your Windows VPS may suddenly not know how to load a website within web browsers.
To resolve the issue where websites don’t load within web browsers please do one of the following methods:
Method 1:
1. Open Command Prompt within the VM from the start menu, or go to Start -> Run -> and type cmd and then press enter
2. Type the following command into the command prompt and press enter:
ipconfig /renew
3. Close the Command Prompt window. You should now be able to connect to websites within your web browsers.
OR
Method 2:
1. Completely shut down your VPS from within your operating system
2. Go onto our control panel and boot the VPS up
3. Give it a minute or two and then connect to RDP. You should now be able to connect to websites within your web browsers.
OR
Method 3:
1. Open PowerShell from the start menu and type each of the following 3 commands in order into the powershell prompt:
$AdapterName = $(Get-NetAdapter | Where { $_.Name -eq ‘Ethernet’ -and $_.State -Match 2}).Name
set-DnsClientServerAddress -InterfaceAlias $AdapterName -ServerAddresses (“8.8.8.8″,”8.8.4.4”)
ipconfig /flushdns
2. Close the PowerShell window. You should now be able to connect to websites within your web browsers.
If you continue to experience issues after performing all 3 methods, please raise a ticket into the support team with your Administrator login credentials so we can investigate this further for you.
