In my role as a STEM Ambassador I’d normally be popping into schools to do technology related talks or workshops with children to try and encourage an interest in computing studies and IT careers. Because of lock down that’s not been possible recently. So, I put my thinking cap on to come up with a STEM activity for the children in my community and decided to turn it into a competition.
There are 2 prizes of a Kindle Fire 7 up for grabs, one winner in each age category. Children must be residents of Cromarty or the catchment area for the Cromarty school to be eligible to enter.
So how can you win? The theme is Technology of course!
Primary age children – Communicating online
I’d like you to draw a picture of yourself using technology to communicate with friends or family members while on lockdown. The picture can be created using any medium (pens, pencils, paint, or a computer design program). It can be true to life, or allow your imagination to run free!
Secondary age children – Lock down business website
For the older category I’m looking for you to think of a possible lock down business idea for yourself, then illustrate the website homepage for the idea – purely the way the site would look on screen, not actually create a website. I’d like to see an inventive idea and how you might promote that online. Include the options or features you might give your website vistors. Again, any medium can be used and it can be as crazy as your imagination allows. Include a note of your idea in a couple of sentences.
For both categories the picture should be A4 size. The image can be submitted (if scanned or produced on a computer) via email to [email protected] or alternatively, if created on paper, it can be placed in a box at 19 Bayview Crescent, Cromarty.
You must include your name, school year, eg P6/S3, and a contact telephone number in case you win.
Entries must be received by noon on Monday 18th May 2020. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 20th May 2020. Kindles will be delivered personally and we’ll share a photo of winners on our website/social media.
Good luck!
