The WordPress content management system is used by hundreds of our customers for their website design. We thought it might be useful for them to share why they use it. Ian Fraser of Ross and Cromarty Heritage Society shared the following with us:

Ross and Cromarty Heritage Society was formed in the early 1970’s. It has taken it’s name from the local government county, originally created in 1890. The 36 communities covered by the society are those that  formed by the new Highland Region in 1975. More details about the society and its history are available on  our website. 

In late 2019 the trustees of the society decided the website that was originally created in the late 1990’s before being upgraded in the second decade of the 21 century should be re-developed to suit the new technological changes and new regulatory requirements that have occurred since. After delays due to the Covid 19 pandemic the new website was finally completed and went live at the beginning of April 2021.  

The website uses WordPress as this provided an easy to use Website builder with functions that allowed members of the society to build over the 1,000 pages that make up the site. The selected use of WordPress plug-ins allowed the unique mix of pages, books (DearFlip plug-in) and photographs (WP Photo Album Plus plug-in) that make up the site to be presented in the best way to visitors. The website has always received a  wealth of contributions from our visitors and therefore the new site has areas within each community page  to allow visitors to add additional local contributions to the website (Forminator plug-in). 

Calico UK has been invaluable throughout the development of the new site by providing help and advice during setup of the website on their SuperCali Linux servers.
